HISTORICAL STATEMENT
For many years, the State Macedonian Boards have helped young people of Christian Union to obtain their training. The Christian Union Extension School came into existence in the 1960s.
In the early 1970s, it became a conviction of many of our leaders that we needed a Bible School of our own to train our pastors, Christian workers, and leaders.
The Iowa Council started a Bible Institute with evening classes in 1974. About the same time, evening classes were started in First and Second Districts of Ohio. In 1975, the Delaware District of Ohio started a Bible Institute with evening classes.
The Christian Union School of the Bible formally came into being May 18, 1978. The Executive Council of the General Council in Christian Union authorized the Governing Board, consisting of the Ohio Council Educational Committee and the National Education Board of the General Council to develop a school. The first classes were held in the Trinity Christian Union Church beginning September 12, 1978. The name was changed to the Christian Union Bible College in 1991.
The Ohio Council had voted to use the campground at Greenfield as a school campus. Remodeling was begun in early 1979 and classes were held in the main hall beginning September 4, 1979. A 2400 Square foot building was constructed in 1983. This building is presently housing the college library, the administration office, the student lounge, and one classroom. The college also owns two houses, which have been used for student housing. The Ohio Council of Christian Union has given the Bible College access to any of the facilities at the Ohio Campgrounds. This gives the College adequate room for increased class offerings and special programs. The Ohio Campground has just finished a new dormitory, which will also become available for use by the Bible College. Plans are under way to build a new building which will house the library. This new building will include a new computer room, as well as more room for study tables and conference rooms.
LOCATION
The Christian Union Bible College is located on the Ohio Christian Union Campgrounds in Greenfield, Ohio. The campus is one block north of the place where State Route 41 enters North Washington Street in the north part of the city. Greenfield, a city of 5,000, lies near the point in Southern Ohio where the fertile plains join the hill country. A few miles to the south are the forested hills, among which are the beautiful lakes that furnish a popular recreation area.
Four county seat cities ranging in population from 6,000 to 30,000 are within 25 miles. Three large cities are within commuting range: Dayton, 50 miles; Columbus, 60 miles; and Cincinnati, 75 miles. These offer many social, cultural, service and ministry opportunities.
There are some 30 Christian Union churches within 60 miles of Greenfield. This makes an ideal location. Many students can commute to classes, cutting their expenses for education. This is helpful, also, for those who wish to minister in a Christian Union Church.
Just across the street from the campus is the Trinity Christian Union Church, which is open to all students of the Bible College. This also offers opportunities to minister, especially for resident students.
